Closer to our modern times, alchemists of the early Middle Ages were fanatically concerned with the inherent healing and scientific energies of gemstones.

Alchemy, though ancient in origin, dominated Western healing during the Middle Ages. Gem energies were again used for their healing properties. Some alchemists devoted themselves to the mystical sciences of transformation and transmutation of metals and matter.
